TONY CORREIA, ARA

Tony Correia, an Accredited Rural Appraiser, specializes in difficult valuation assignments, including the appraisal of large, complex, agricultural properties, with a specific focus on the wine industry, and water rights. He is the president of Correia - Xavier, Inc., and is an instructor of appraisal courses and seminars throughout the nation and Mexico, and is also a frequent public speaker on agricultural, appraisal, taxation, and estate planning issues, and the vineyard and wine industries. He has been a guest speaker for many organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Appraisal Institute, the American Society of Appraisers, the Land Trust Alliance, the California CPA Education Foundation, and many institutions of higher education. Tony is also qualified as an Expert Witness in many courts, a member and past chairman of the Fresno County Tax Assessment Appeals Board, a past President of the California Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and member and past president of Chapter 50 of the International Right of Way Association.

After undergraduate work at Saint Mary’s College of California and Syracuse University, Tony graduated from California State University, Fresno, with a major and post-graduate work in English and a second major in Russian. Prior pursuits include former lives as a grape grower and as a military intelligence analyst, cryptologist, and linguist. Tony has also been employed in various government positions, including a tour as an IRS examiner. He now lives in Sonoma, with his wife Stephanie, and enjoys travel, great literature and music, fast cars, slow cooking, gardening, the study of wine, and the pursuit of knowledge.

He has been a guest lecturer at UC Davis; UC Santa Barbara, Sonoma State University, California State University, Fresno; Fresno City College; the Institute of Agribusiness at Santa Clara University; the Wine Industry Financial Symposium, the Vineyard Economics Seminar in Napa; The University of Zacatecas in Mexico, and the California Agribusiness Conference. Mr. Correia has been invited to speak before meetings of the Land Trust Alliance, American Bankers Association, American Bar Association, Appraisal Institute, American Society of Appraisers, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, Columbia
